MAAS was founded in 2009 by Grand Master Brian Dossett, 10 Dan Spirit Combat as a resource and network for his other organizations that has been active since the 1960's. (SCI, BKBU and more).

MAAS is a non-profit organization consisting of martial artists working together with minimal political interference. Our management are all professionals giving their services on a voluntary basis, serving those running, or wanting to start, their own clubs. We see it more as a network than a federation, and we aim to be friends, enjoy what we do and help eachother to develop and do it better!
MAAS International was established in its current format through the friendship and understanding between some key players. Once the time was right it brought together more people under the ambition to share, educate and grow together. Instructors, students, parents and others have contributed to the creation of a professional but relaxed organization in Europe and the rest of the world.
MAAS Membership is a choice and has its options on how active and involved you want to be.
We involve no annual fees or mandatory costs, we simply believe that business is best handled by each and everyone alone, while martial arts is something we need to share and enjoy together!
In our opinion there is room for both traditional and modern, free styles of martial arts. We are here for Martial artists who are interested in coaching or training their particular style/s and enjoying their passion.We work alongside other organizations, because they may offer services that we don’t and vice versa. Each organization offers different things and it’s for us to choose which one suits our needs.
We want to offer what instructors want and what students need. We know there are instructors wanting to start their own club and/or instructors who already run their own club, but are in need of better support or new inspiration.
We want to be that source of inspiration, and we offer additional services.
AMATEURS AND PROFESSIONALS ALIKE
For example, the MAAS UK kickboxing events have always been unique - serving the novice, intermediate and advanced. In fact there have been many who have been, and still are, professionals, bred within our BKBU* kickboxing section within MAAS. Many MMA, boxers, cage contenders and champions all came from the MAAS family. From Scandinavia, some Kickboxers have had their first real fights in a boxing ring at the MAAS events in the UK.

PEOPLE HAVE MANY REASONS WHY THEY NEED TO MOVE ON
It may be that they feel they out grow styles, activities, interests, clubs and associations. Or they may just be discontent or done with their present status or position. Either way, MAAS can help because most of our member instructors have experienced one of the above, and while you make your our own decisions - MAAS will support you to do that.
MAAS CAN HELP YOU EXERCISE YOUR CREATIVITY AND HELP YOU TOWARDS YOUR GOAL
We know there are advanced students and/or instructors who may have fallen out with their coach, Master and/or previous organization and would like to branch out to develop their own thing.
NEED COACHING QUALIFICATION?
Also, as there may be people out there who have never been graded and have no coaching qualification. You may be coaching your own style at present and have come to the period where you want to further your knowledge without affecting your present status. Again we are here to guide and support you and not dictate to you. MAAS International is a network of people of all levels working together.
MAAS is like a house with many rooms. Each member club has its own room. Like any house, the house has to be maintained leaving each person to be responsible for the room they rent to maintain the status of the house. It’s that simple.
You treat your room with respect and we serve all rooms with the basic services. There is no yearly fee or cost for membership. Tuition, gradings, equipment profits belongs to the respective club and has nothing to do with the MAAS management. There is no hidden cost or confusion. Your contribution is basically yourself and your passion and determination to grow within MAAS.
The only actual cost is the registration fee for black belt grades. All other costs are individual, courtesy of the associated club, dojo, school or instructor.
WHO IS AN INSTRUCTOR?
That’s the same as asking “what is a qualified driver”. Someone may be able to drive a vehicle but to be legal that person must be tested. Being tested makes the driver “qualified” but he or she may not be experienced. Qualifications and experience are two very different things.
To gain experience you require a qualification, and again - MAAS can help. You become a responsible driver and you have a responsibility to those you transport.
Being a responsible instructor is no different. You are teaching techniques. Those you teach are your passengers and the venue you teach in is your vehicle.
MAAS is a governing body to its instructors, clubs and students today. If you teach you are educating and you need to cover all bases. MAAS can help you establish your status as an instructor and further it through advice and inspiration.
WE TAKE YOU AND YOUR ROLE AS AN INSTRUCTOR VERY SERIOUSLY
MAAS International host Instructors courses on a regular basis, open to anyone willing to learn about principles and simplicity in martial arts. Also, we host open seminars with international instructors, special weapons training and more. Our aim is to be active, inspire and help you grow and feed that passion!!!
We are a friendly organization and like to know and meet our instructors. Therefore we invite you and the members of the club to attend seminars, instructor courses, training camps, competitions etc. This helps maintain standards and gives you a chance to meet other members of the organization. It’s in everyones own interest to attend and talk, learn, inspire and ask questions. This is how we grow together and keep going the same direction as a strong network.
BELTS, TITLES, RANKS, GRADINGS...
If you are due to your next rank or title, or have been left out by your previous organization, MAAS can help!
Upgrades are considered based on the last proof of grading and/or experience. We recognize instructors may not have been graded or approved accordingly. In such cases MAAS can offer independent assessments, but to protect everyone involved, this requires a thorough examination of the instructors skills, knowledge and status before our technical board of assessors.
The MAAS management would ensure the panel of assessors to include different levels of expertise and martial styles. The panel would not sit in judgement other than make suggestions based on their experience and the health and safety requirements. This was how styles were created, and we strive to let people grow as we help them on whatever journey and path they choose.
MAAS is modern in its thinking and assessing, rather than judging – we inspire, advise and support!
Those wanting to experiment with their own imagination and exercise their creativity can do so with unlimited support from the MAAS technical board.
You may be graded in your previous organization, or you may hold a grade in another organization and wish to continue your ranks within that organization. No problem, MAAS is still here to help, support and inspire you!
WHO GRADES STUDENTS?
You grade your students, but you should have MAAS officials to support the gradings of all advanced grades. You may have your own grading certificates or MAAS certificates can be used. We can provide you with a “co-designed” diploma for your own brand and MAAS together.
Mind you - MAAS grades are not to be taken lightly!
We strive to certify quality instructors, teaching quality marital arts! All member clubs are recommended to provide the Technical Board their syllabus or other document that states the vision of the styles training, progress and requirements.
IT IS ALL ABOUT JOINING FORCES AND HELPING EACHOTHER
It’s a partnership between you and MAAS. You need a service with minimal interference and we want you to enjoy what you do. We want martial artists to experience how passion is reborn and how the journey never ends. Any MAAS event is open to all members. So it’s one big happy family. We focus on what we like to do, and just by doing your thing with the support and guidance of MAAS, you become part of the family.
